Coroners left a man distraught after his 54st girlfriend’s body was dragged out of the home they had shared and winched onto a tow truck.
Teresa Smith, 48, who had been bedridden by her weight, died in her sleep, according to the Indy Star.
But funeral directors told the coroner they could not handle the body, and firefighters who could have taken care of the job were not available, reports said.
So a wrecking company were drafted in to drag Mrs Smith out of the apartment on the mattress where she died.
She was removed through sliding patio doors, and part of a wooden privacy fence had to be uprooted to make room for the removal, before she was lifted onto the tow truck, the paper said.
Boyfriend David Johnson told reporters: “That was like putting a cow up there.”
